Cultural Organizing for Climate
Sustain The Culture is a youth-led movement dedicated to reclaiming environmentalism for Black and Indigenous communities. We move with the understanding that Black has always been green—our ancestral wisdom and cultural roots are the blueprint for a just and sustainable future.
Grounding Black Futures
Sustain The Culture emerged from a simple yet powerful realization: while the climate crisis affects us all, the voices of those most deeply rooted in the land—Black a youth—were being sidelined in mainstream environmental movements. We weren't seeing ourselves in the "green" posters, yet our ancestors lived in harmony with the earth for generations.
Since our first local community meetings and events, we’ve pivoted from small grassroots programs to leading national cultural strategy sessions for the mainstream environmental movement. Our goal is to reach thousands of youth, successfully scale our media initiatives, and continue to develop long-term community programs in Miami and beyond that cultivate belonging and reclaim our right to the future.
Mainstream environmentalism often treated nature as something separate to be protected, but we believe it is more like a living relative to be cared for. Sustain The Culture (STC) was born to bridge this spiritual, cultural and community gap, transforming climate action from a corporate checkbox into a cultural revolution that honors the diaspora's relationship with place.
